Stolichnaya Gold is the step up from the classic, a Russian vodka made from wheat and rye with two details doing the heavy lifting. It is based on 100% single-estate Gubernator Dona winter wheat, and the water is filtered through shungite, a meteoric rock found in the Tambov region of Russia.
The result is an incredibly smooth vodka, and the judges have agreed repeatedly. It took a Gold medal at The Vodka Masters in 2008, a Gold Medal at the International Review of Spirits, 94 points from the Beverage Testing Institute and 93 points from Wine Enthusiast.
Serve it straight from the freezer in a chilled glass, where the texture is the whole show, or pour it into a Martini or a Vesper that deserves a better base spirit. It sits happily with caviar, smoked salmon and cured fish. 700ml, and honest value for the awards behind it.
