Schloss Johannisberg sits at the historic heart of the Rheingau, and Gelblack is its medium-dry Riesling. The wine is composed of hand-harvested grapes from the single Schloss Johannisberg vineyard, and it is highly aromatic, with distinctive notes of white flowers, citrus and pear. Complex, exceptionally balanced and refined.
The grapes are hand harvested and softly crushed. The must ferments in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with a small quantity, around 10%, in wooden barrels. After fermentation the wine settles on its lees for five months, which builds texture without masking the fruit.
The colour is a brilliant pale lemon yellow. The nose is young, showing white flowers, grated lemon peel and pear, while the palate is firm and fresh, well balanced with crisp acidity.
Serve it well chilled with salads or roasted chicken. Its touch of sweetness also makes it a fine partner for chilli-driven Asian dishes.
