The Singleton 12 Year Old is matured in a high proportion of American oak casks, with a small portion of European oak to balance the liquid. American oak brings the sweetness and vanilla, European oak adds depth, and the result is an easy to enjoy single malt at 40% ABV.
The nose is fresh, light and clean, with fruitiness and soft fragrant notes of scented leather, subtle sandalwood and vanilla. The palate is fresh and easy to drink, spicy at first, then soft and pleasantly sweet, carrying citrus, raisins, vanilla and a hint of honey. Luscious brown sugar, soft cooked apples and creamy toffee run through it, and the finish is short, creamy and smooth.
This is the single malt to open when the room is full rather than when you want to study a whisky. Serve it neat or with a splash of water, and let it do its job.
