Dewar's blended Scotch has a storied history going back to 1846, when John Dewar became one of the first men to bottle blended scotch in glass bottles for retail. In 1899 his son, John A. Dewar, unveiled the company's new flagship, White Label.
Its main component was the malt produced at the newly constructed Aberfeldy distillery in the Highlands, near Perthshire, which Dewar's built specifically to ensure a steady supply of malt for blending. That is unusual: most blenders buy their malt rather than build a distillery for it.
Today's White Label still retains Aberfeldy malt as its heart, the primary malt component, alongside as many as 40 other malts and grain whiskies. The result is approachable and consistent, which is exactly what a house blend should be. Pour it neat, over ice, or in a highball with soda, and keep it as the everyday Scotch that never needs an occasion. 750ml.
