Chateau Batailley

Chateau Batailley Grand Cru Classe Pauillac 2016

₱7,750

96 pts - James Suckling - Shows beautiful, ripe cabernet aromas with currants, plums, meat and smoke. Flowers, too. Full body, deep and ripe fruit and exquisite, ripe tannins. Flavourful finish. Tight right now, but shows excellent potential. Best ever.

93 pts - Decanter - Upfront and confident on the attack, this shows a rich sweetness with cedar, damson and blackberry. It's big and weighty, and goes for impact - the oak is a little more evident than in some others. The acidity feels high at first, but it settles into itself. It's well-knitted with extremely impressive tannins - this needs time.

The name of this estate comes from the word “bataille”, meaning battle, in memory of a skirmish that took place in the vines in 1453 during the Hundred Years’ War. During this battle, the French troops retook possession of Château Latour which was occupied by the English, and this marked the end of English rule over the Medoc region.

Tasting Notes: Batailley is a classic Pauillac, with a deep ruby-red colour, excellent structure and pronounced blackcurrant overtones.

ABV: 13% / Varietals: 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot, 3% Cabernet Franc / Origin: Bordeaux, France
