Paringa Estate sits in the heart of Victoria's beautiful Mornington Peninsula. Lindsay McCall founded it in 1984 after buying a derelict orchard, following a fascination with wine that began in the mid 1970s. The first vintage came in 1988 from just three tonnes of fruit, and production now runs to 16,000 cases. Paringa Estate is one of the most highly awarded boutique wineries in Australia, regularly winning trophies for its Shiraz, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
The Peninsula Shiraz is 95% Shiraz with 5% Viognier at 13.5% ABV. Spicy blackberry and plum aromas are complemented by lifted floral notes from that dash of Viognier, and the palate follows with lively blackberry and plum and hints of black pepper.
This is cool climate Shiraz: enticing and elegant, with fine grained tannins, a silky texture and a long, harmonious, savoury finish. Serve it with duck, lamb or peppered steak.
