This is the hot one. Nuri's Special Edition takes the same hand selected sardines and packs them in olive oil with chilli, clove and pepper, so the heat builds slowly rather than flattening the fish. The spice is assertive enough to hold its own against a cold beer or a chilled dry white, and it makes a genuinely good bar snack straight from the tin.
Nuri is canned at the Pinhais factory in Matosinhos, Portugal, a house founded in 1920 and the only one still working the traditional way at every stage. Each tin is filled by hand and wrapped in paper by hand. Serve on toasted sourdough with a squeeze of lemon, or fold into pasta with garlic and parsley to temper the chilli.
