Named after the turrets that surmount the chateau of Pichon Longueville, Les Tourelles de Longueville is the second wine of Château Pichon Baron and has its own dedicated portion of the vineyard, drawn mainly from the Merlot-planted Sainte Anne plot. It is open, generous and full bodied, and it scored 94 from James Suckling, 93 from Wine Enthusiast and 91 from Wine Spectator.
The 2019 is fragrant with blackcurrant and black cherry, lifted by sandalwood, nutmeg and dried lavender. The palate is full bodied with firm, polished tannins around a deep, fleshy core of dark fruit, closing on plum, anise and cedar. It is drinking well from 2023 through 2033.
Origin: Bordeaux, France. Appellation: Pauillac. Varietals: 68% Merlot, 19% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot. Decant an hour ahead and serve with rib of beef, rack of lamb or aged hard cheese.
