Most coffee liqueurs are built on neutral spirit. This one is not. Herencia de Plata starts from its own tequila and layers coffee over it, so the agave stays part of the flavour rather than disappearing under sugar.
At 30% ABV it is richer and firmer than the category norm. Expect caramelised nuts, baked orchard fruits, a touch of earthy dill, dark chocolate and a hint of raisin, with the coffee running through the middle rather than sitting on top.
Serve it neat and lightly chilled after dinner, over a single large ice cube, or poured over vanilla ice cream and dark chocolate desserts. It also makes an Espresso Martini with far more character than the usual version, and a memorable addition to black coffee at the end of a long meal. Made in Mexico.
