Dewar's 12 Year Old is a direct descendant of the signature Blended Scotch Whisky the house introduced over a century ago. It was created by Master Blender Tom Aitken as the first permanent product in the premium Blended Scotch range, which is to say it was built to be poured regularly rather than kept for anniversaries.
The character is rich, refreshing, sweet and herbaceous. Dewar's describes it as taking all of the components of the classic Bobby Burns cocktail and putting a fresh spin on them, and that herbal, honeyed profile is exactly why it makes such a good Bobby Burns in return, with sweet vermouth and a measure of Benedictine.
It works just as well in The Original Highball, long over ice with soda and a lemon twist. Twelve years of age at 750ml, and a good introduction to blended Scotch for anyone moving up from the standard bottlings.
