The De Gras Estate range is the introduction to the de Gras winemaking style: fruit-forward, aromatic and approachable wines made for all occasions rather than for a cellar. This 2018 comes from Chile's Central Valley and is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon.
The aroma leads with black fruit, chiefly blackcurrants and plums. On the palate there is good body and structure, with superb concentration of fruit and well-rounded tannins that keep the finish smooth rather than grippy.
It is the sort of red that does not ask anything of you. Pour it with grilled beef, roast chicken, burgers, tomato-rich pastas or a hard cheese, and it will fit right in. Serve it a touch below room temperature so the fruit stays fresh. If you are stocking up for a weekend table, this is a dependable case wine at a fair price.
