Crios is Susana Balbo's approachable range, and this is 100% Chardonnay from the Valle de Uco in Mendoza, the high-altitude corner of Argentina that keeps white wines fresh. It is 13.5% ABV.
The wine is golden with green sparkles in the glass. The nose is very aromatic, with a floral profile showing white flowers and citrus. Contact with the lees is what shapes the palate, filling out the mouthfeel while leaving an elegant acidity running underneath. It is a Chardonnay with texture rather than heavy oak.
That balance makes it easy to pair. Serve it chilled, around 10 to 12C, with fish, shellfish, white meats and cream-based sauces, and it holds up well to Asian food too, which is not something every Chardonnay manages. A good bottle for a seafood dinner or a long lunch.
