Cloudy Bay Chardonnay 2022 is one for connoisseurs and gastronomic adventurers: refined, poised and balanced. Painstakingly made using traditional techniques, it is a true ‘food wine’. Fruit from vineyards in the stony soils of Wairau Valley and the dense clay of the Southern Valleys work together to create a wine that marries ripe stone fruit and citrusy elegance.
Tasting notes: Attractive on the nose, with ripe notes of Meyer lemon and white nectarine. Subtle oak is present, with aromas like the first spoon-crack of the top of a good crème brûlée: vanilla, a hint of darkness and plenty of promise. The palate is taut and vibrant, with mouthwatering citrus framing a core of conference pear and white nectarine. The deft oak complements the fruit concentration, creating structure and ensuring a balanced rather than overtly fruity character. Saline-fresh on the long and beguiling finish.
Food Pairing: Cloudy Bay Chardonnay is a natural match for just about everything, but especially seafood and other bright or creamy flavours. Try it with Caprese salad, soft cows’ cheeses, cream sauces or anything smoked or chargrilled.
