Big Peat Blended Malt Scotch Whisky is a heavily peated whisky crafted by Douglas Laing & Co. It was first launched in 2009 as part of their "Remarkable Regional Malts" series, designed to showcase the distinct flavors of Scotland's whisky regions. Big Peat is a blend of single malts from Islay distilleries, including Caol Ila (adding sweetness), Ardbeg (providing a medicinal, earthy quality), Bowmore (balancing the flavors), and the rare Port Ellen (adding a degree of elegance).
Tasting Notes
Nose: Strong peat aroma with earthy sea-salt notes, damp smoke, and a touch of maritime influence.
Palate: A mix of sweet and spicy flavors, with notes of ash, tar, black pepper, and smoked meat. It has an oily mouthfeel with a balance of medicinal and maritime elements.
Finish: Long-lasting smoky and salty finish with hints of bonfire ash and liquorice.
