Pirramimma is one of South Australia's founding wineries, established in 1892 and still proudly owned by the Johnston family. Stock's Hill is its approachable range, and this Sauvignon Blanc shows what McLaren Vale can do with the grape.
The nose gives fresh lemon sorbet, gooseberry, grassy herbaceous notes and guava. The palate follows with the same citrus and herbal lift, joined by subtle passionfruit, citrus, apricot and a savoury chickpea note that stops it becoming simply tropical.
It is light-bodied at 12% ABV, which makes it genuinely refreshing rather than tiring, and a sensible choice for warm afternoons. Serve it properly chilled in a white wine glass.
Pour it with shellfish, oysters, grilled prawns, kinilaw, vegetarian dishes and goat cheese. If you are building a lunch around fresh seafood and citrus, this is the bottle to open. From the 2021 vintage.
